On April 27, 2019 the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called will deliver the Holy Fire to Moscow
In 2003 the Foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called restored the tradition of bringing the Holy Fire to the Russian Orthodox Church.
In 2018, for the seventeenth time, the Foundation will deliver the Fire to Moscow on Holy Saturday for the Patriarchal Easter Service held at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
Upon the blessing from His Holiness Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, on April 27, 2019, just before the Orthodox Easter, a delegation of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called is going to deliver the Holy Fire from the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem to Moscow for the Easter Patriarchal Service held at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Vladimir Yakunin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called, and Archbishop Matthew of Yegoryevsk, a representative of the Russian Orthodox Church and a vicar of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, will head the delegation.
Traditionally, the delegation of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called will include public officials, politicians, the clergy, representatives of culture, journalists and business people. There will be about 100 participants altogether.
The delegation includes the following members: Olga Epifanova, Deputy Chairperson of State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the RF, Sergey Gavrilov, Chairman of State Duma Committee of the Federal Assembly of the RF for Civil Society and for Non-Governmental and Religious Organizations, Vladimir Shamanov, Chairman of State Duma Committee of the Federal Assembly of the RF for Defense, Sergey Lukin, a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the RF, Alexander Sokolov, Rector of The Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, Alexey Baindurashvilly, Director of The Turner Scientific Research Institute for Children’s Orthopedics (Federal State Budgetary Institution), professor and chieftrauma orthopaedistfor children in Saint-Petersburg, Vladimir Uyba, Head of FMBA of Russia, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation and holder of post-doctoral degree in medicine, professor, Vladimir Volkov, Mayor of Yaroslavl and others.
The delivery of the Holy Fire to the Russian Orthodox Church is carried out as part of “Pray for Peace for Jerusalem”, a program implemented by the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called. The annual peacemaking program has been implemented since 2003. Theprayerforpeacein the Holy Land is an important element of the initiative. ThedelegationoftheFoundationofSaintAndrew the First-Called along with Patriarch of Jerusalem pray for peace in the Holy Land. Theprayerisalso held in churches of the Russian Orthodox Church.
On April 27, on Holy Saturday, members of the delegation are going to take part in the litany of the Holy Fire at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. Millions of people watching NTV Channel and listening to “Radio Russia” in Russia and in near and far-abroad countries will also be part of the unique divine service held at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem. The Holy Fire will be delivered on board special plane to Moscow for the Easter Patriarchal Service to be held at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior where the Fire will be handed over to His Holiness Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
On this day “Gigarama” laboratory (part of “News Media” Media Holding) is going to shoot the project titled “The Way of the Fire”. Theuniquevisualizationtechnologiesand 360 videowillmakeitpossible for everybody to become a member of the pilgrimage delegation on the Holy Land and to join the entire trip of delivering the Holy Fire to Russia.
As usual, hundreds of believers are going to meet the delegation at Vnukovo Airport. LatertheHolyFirewillbedistributedtochurches in Moscow, the Moscow region and other Russian regions.
Duringthe Easter Week it is possible to obtain the Fire at the office of the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called located at: 42 Pokrovka St., b.5 (from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.). Forthosewillingtoreceive the Holy Fire it is necessary to bring their oil lamps.
Every year the Holy Fire is delivered to thousands of churches of the Russian Orthodox Church across Russia and to near and far-abroad countries. In 2019 the Holy Fire is expected to be delivered to Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Baku, Barnaul, Belgorod, Valaam, Volgograd, Voronezh, Vladivostok, Derbent, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, Kemerovo, Kostroma, Krasnoyarsk, Kurgan, Kursk, London, Makhachkala, Lipetsk, Magadan, Magas, Murmansk, Munich, New York, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Oryol, Orenburg, Perm, Pskov, Riga, Rostov-on-Don, Ryazan, Samara, Saint-Petersburg, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Saratov, Smolensk, Syktyvkar, Sevastopol, Simferopol, Tallinn, Tambov, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Khabarovsk, Chita, Cheboksary, YuzhnoSakhalinsk, Yakutsk, Yaroslavl and other cities.
It is also planned to deliver the Holy Fire to Germany, Latvia, the US and Estonia.
